  1. Most Saks stores effortlessly project a high end ambience. This Phipps Plaza store doesn't seem overwhelmed with vendor shops as Neiman Marcus at Lenox Square. Another interesting Saks location is the store anchoring The Summit lifestyle center in Birmingham.

  2. I've never seen Saks at The Summit, but you're right. Saks is a master at making every store they operate seem elegant.

  3. For me, the logo does it -- I'm so glad that they brought the script one back as the official corporate logo.

  4. Phipps Plaza opened in 1969, and was an acknowledgement that Atlanta was a premier retail center, having gained Saks and L&T.
The optimism of the era still shows in the Saks.

The opening of Phipps Plaza resulted in neighboring Lenox Square repositioning itself as a more fashion-forward mall, less stody than Phipps, but more appealing than the pre-enclosed, pre-Neiman-Marcus Lenox. Phipps even acknowledged that many shoppers avoided Phipps due to the stody image and the addition of Parisian was to broaden Phipps appeal.

  5. Matt: I actually wasn't a fan of bringing back the logo at first. But Saks hasn't just changed their logo, they've recommitted to the idea of luxury, and that's a very good thing.

Anon: You're right, without Phipps Plaza, the course Buckhead's been on for a generation would have been a lot different.

  6. I think thats my favorite Saks. It looked even better in person. I love the new (old) logo. The old one (parking garage entrance) was kind of boring. The smaller silver one above the entrance makes the store look even nicer.

  7. I think it works well against the relatively spare exterior. It's a good logo.
