Neiman Marcus is coming to Charlotte. The Dallas-based department store chain, known to fans as the creme de la creme of retail, will open a store at SouthPark September 15, 2006.

The store will be Neiman Marcus' 39th property and the mall's sixth anchor. Charlotte's location will be the only one between Washington and Atlanta.

At 80,000 square feet, this Neiman Marcus will be the chain's second smallest, ahead of Palm Beach's 53,000-square- foot store, according to the company's corporate Web site.

  1. Do you ever get chased away from construction sites ?

  2. Just think.... while Dillard's at SouthPark is steady at de-volving from a unique store facade with personality into a mindless box, N-M is all about creating yet another undividual, attention-getting facade that is one-of-a-kind.

  3. Anonymous: I've been chased off mall property a couple of times over the years by security, but a friend of mine from UrbanPlanet took these pictures so that I wouldn't get in trouble. :-)

Todd: There is a lot of irony in what Belk and Dillard's did at SouthPark compared to NM. This apparently is only visible to perceptive Modernist mall geeks like us, but I digress... :-)

  4. Wow! That's a beautiful store! I didn't think Neiman's was expanding, let alone to North Carolina.
    Thanks for sharing with us!

  5. Scott: Neiman-Marcus is on a small but important expansion kick. This is going to be the first and only store between Washington and Atlanta, so it'll be exciting when it opens on September 15.

  7. I agree. NM consistently has some of the best store designs in the business.
