  2. My local JCPenney used to look a lot like this one..its men's department had white walls with red and blue designs though.

  3. LOL! I either don't recall or have never been to a Penney's with these lovely designs on the wall. I can't decide if it is fortunate or unfortunate.

  4. Most of the stranger elements of JCPenney's decor were either completely removed or painted over in what I call "the great remodeling of 1983." pretty much every Penney store was remodeled that year.

Since you're younger than me, you might not have been old enough to remember the old-school JCPenney: I was seven or eight when they remodeled.

  5. Dang, I was born in 1980 which only made me three in '83. Definitely why I don't recall the groovy pattern days of Penney's. Too bad, we got stuck with boring 80s remodels which included a calmer atmosphere of pastels and fake wood and plants.

  6. The'80s stuff was less colorful and fun, but Penney's had become a victim of its merchandising and store design. That decor is fun to look at now, but it was really out of date by the time they finally updated.

  7. You should see what the children's department at the JC Penney at Cary Towne Center looked like in the early 90s. My memories are rather vague, but I think it unnerved me a little. It could probably give this store a run for its money.

  8. I'm imagining a neon-colored disaster. Am I right?
