This is a series of ads that ran in the January 3, 1981 Charlotte Observer, the day before the Charlotte Marathon. Nike must have been a sponsor, as all of the department stores were heavily pushing Nike sneakers.

Belk operated a store in Kannapolis, North Carolina, for many years. Originally on Main Street, the store eventually moved to the Cannon Village pedestrian mall The store was combined with the Belk at Carolina Mall in neighboring Concord in later years, and the Cannon Village building was converted to an antique mall.
