  1. Well, it finally happened...I actually bought a wedding gift at SouthPark that day. Everyone seemed in a halfway decent mood, at least...

I still hate those stupid black macy*s signs -- they look awful during the day on most surfaces (Hanes), and terrible at night pretty much anywhere, in my opinion. The only places I think it works are at SouthPark and Town Center (Atlanta), only because the building exterior is solid white. Hanes (brick) and Gwinnett Place (glass, although I haven't seen in person if the macy*s sign there is black) look...bad.

Thanks Steve...keep up the great work. And thanks to DaAchiever for the pix!

  2. This conversion has been very disappointing on many levels. I know with the signs, the decisions Macy's made were bizarre.

Hanes Mall and Friendly Center both got backlit signs with black lettering, and they're both dark brick buildings, while my local stores in Roanoke and Lynchburg got black signs that shine white at night. I don't think they even sent anybody out in the field to document what each store needed.

Inside it's not much better. They're pretty much the same as Hecht's was, with only a few minor tweaks. Not exactly the most compelling reason to shop more.

What really got me about this store in particular is the removal of all the woodwork from the Polo department. Granted, Polo shops look a lot different than they did in 1990, but they removed what was there and replaced it with...nothing! That's screwed up.

  3. Man, I haven't been to Hanes Mall in over 2 years. That's probably my favorite mall that's not Carolina Circle.

  4. It's still a great mall. I don't like the Macy's there much merchandise-wise, but it's a good looking store, as you can tell.
