Belk was one of Holly Hill Mall’s original tenants when it opened in 1969. Holly Hill has changed names twice over the years, and is now Burlington Square Mall.

The Belk store was expanded and extensively remodeled in the late 1980s. It is scheduled to close in September 2007, as the company completes construction on a 96,000-square-foot, $9 million department store at Alamance Crossing on University Drive, one exit west on I-40/85. That store is scheduled to open in October.

  1. Yes, most of us were not keen on the idea of the old Belk closing and moving to the new location. The Old Mall however has been bought and will once again be under the Holly Hill name. Bill Price, A local Buick Dealership owner, owned the property called "Holly Hill" and his mansion "Holly Hill" was located on the property before the mall was built and was called...Holly Hill.

  2. It'll be nice to see the old name return.
